Mounted Mischief 4-H Club was founded in 2000 to provide a safe, supportive environment to learn about horses.  Since then, we've grown into one of the largest and most vibrant horse 4-H clubs in King County.  Most of our members either own their own horse or have access to one through a lease.  Members range from novice to advanced riders.  In most months, our regular business meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Star Lake Elementary School
Mounted Mischief welcomes members of all horse-related interests and breed preferences. We stress having fun while making new friends, behaving safely, setting and achieving personal goals, helping others achieve their goals, showing good sportsmanship and becoming a more competent rider.
Fun and educational activities include:
  • Riding clinics with 4-H judges
  • Judging contests
  • Community service projects
  • Horseback and horseless parties
  • Field trips

4-H Motto:
To Make the Best Better!
King County 4-H Needs Your Help

The King County budget shortfall of about $93 million dollars has caused County Executive Ron Sims to suggest funding cuts in the upcoming budget.  These include eliminating funding for County 4-H.  For now, 4-H is sitting in a budget "lifeboat" awaiting a final determination.  King County 4-H asks that you show your support by attending budget meetings and/or emailing councilpeople.  There is also a website where you can make a public statement.  Let the County Council know what 4-H means to you.
Next public meeting: Monday, November 10 @ 1:30 pm, King County Council Chambers, 516 Third Ave, Rm 1200, Seattle, WA.

There have been several emails sent containing information about all of this via the county Yahoo! group listserv.  Please make sure to go through them.  We want everyone to have the same, good information.  Please forward them to anyone you know who does not use the listserv.

A separate issue is the future of the King County Fair.  We all know it has been a real struggle with small attendance and it has been costing the county money each year for some time.  It is the oldest Fair west of the Mississippi, founded in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln was President!  Is the Fair important to you?  Let the King County Council know!  Again, email the councilpeople with your thoughts and experiences.
More Fair facts:
When founded, Washington State was 26 years from statehood.  It began as a simple celebration of agriculture and originally took place in the Georgetown area south of Seattle.  The King County Fair moved to Renton around 1900, and then to Enumclaw after World War II.  (Fair History and Fun Facts)

Hunt Seat Over Fences is just one of the many class types 4-H offers.
Here, Valerie and Blaze compete at a King County 4-H Leaders show.
Western Games is a fast and fun section of Equine 4-H.
Allison and Bree bring it on in Texas Barrels.
Here are several of our members at the King County 4-H Leaders Awards Banquet.  While our focus is fun and education, coming home with a trophy or ribbon now and then is pretty great stuff.  Our club members won the Herdsmanship Trophy at King County Fair and individual members have won medals (including multiple Supremes - go Allison!), State ribbons, Series High Points, etc.  One of our best traits as a club is that we support each other win or not.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors!
